Gigi Lai Chi (Simplified Chinese: 黎姿, born on 1 October 1971) is a Hong Kong actress under contract to the TVB television channel.
She is the grand-daughter of Mr. Lai Man-Wai (黎文偉), who is a key figure of the first generation filmmakers, and have been referred as “Father of Hong Kong Movie” in Hong Kong cinematic history. Her aunt Ms. S. Lai (黎萱) is also an veteran actress.
She is generally a co-star rather than a female lead in most serials like Doomed to Oblivion.
With a successful acting career, Gigi is now trying her luck in singing and has released several albums already. She says that she actually likes singing (and dancing) more than acting.
She won the TVB Most Popular Actress Award in 2004.
Her nickname is Lychee. Gigi garnered a lot of praise and criticism at the same time. According to some audiences, her character, Yuk Ying in the TVB serial War and Beauty, was very outstanding. However, her heavy breathing in her crying scenes drew some criticism from the audience. The producer quickly jumped to her defense, saying that her “innocent and girlish” front needs it, and when her character develops it will not be there anymore. It was said that Gigi Lai was awarded because TVB wanted her to extend her contract and continue to be a TVB actress, and that Sheren Tang deserved the award more than she did.
Gigi has been in the acting career for a while now (about 5 years – how did she start?) She mainly featured in TVB series movies which made her progressed better over the years. Her roles in all the series have been kind hearted because she is a sweet and gentle looking person. She is a very good actress, even though her cinematic movies are of very few and generally acted as a co-star. However, she is quite young and hopefully she will be placed on the cinema screens more often. One Big Thing she has done in this year is that she has been the main female actress in some movies like “Young and Dangerous” and other movies.

Gigi and Ekin Cheng have both disagreed in taking future roles in “Young and Dangerous” films which have been considered by producers (making parts 4 and 5). Most casts members have also said “no” so up to part 3 is what they have for now.
“O Gei Sat Loc 2″ (Criminal Investigator II) is Gigi’s latest TVB series. Part one featured Felix Wong Yat-Wah, Kenix Kwok Ho-Ying, Bondy Chiu Hok-Yee, Sunny Chan Kam-Hung, Amy Fan Yit-Man. Part two’s cast is unknown. The first track and the sixth track of Gigi’s newest Cantonese album was on the YMC, 903, and TVB chart for 2 weeks !!! Gigi’s latest movie after “Goo Wak Jai 3″ is called “Lung Foo Boot Lann Gaai” (Street of Fury) casting Teresa Mak Ka-Kei, Louis Koo Tin-Lok, etc.
